This month, when you enjoy an ice cream treat, the butter in your cookies, cheese on your pizza and yogurt in your morning fruit smoothie, consider tipping your hat toward the dairy farmers who are utterly devoted to providing us these delicious and nutritional foods 365 days a year. National Dairy Month is the perfect time to enjoy dairy and visit a local farm to connect to your food to see first-hand the dedication and passion that is put into producing fresh, wholesome dairy products. What's great about dairy There are many reasons to feel good about including dairy at your table: It's local. Most people live within 100 miles or less of a local dairy farm. Milk is locally produced in every state and it doesn't have far to travel, making its journey from farm to store shelf in less than 48 hours. It's the perfect example of fresh, farm to table. It's nutritious. Milk, cheese and other dairy foods are simple ways to nourish you and your family. It's delicious. Creamy parfaits. Savory pizzas. Chocolate milk after a workout at the gym. A cool malt at the fair. Dairy is part of all things we love to eat and present at some of the most special moments in your life. Memories made over food are the best kind. It's sustainable. One gallon of milk is now produced with 90 percent less land and 65 percent less water than it was decades ago. And all with the use of innovative and safe technology, the dairy farmers deliver exceptional animal care, quality nutrition and the freshest products around. National Dairy Month honors not only the farmers who produce dairy products, but the dairy lovers who bring dairy to life in their kitchen. There is no better time than now to try a new recipe and find new ways to enjoy dairy. Whether it's adding fruit to your cottage cheese or a new combination of ingredients to that morning smoothie, National Dairy Month is the perfect time to try something new and have some fun in the kitchen with your family. Celebrating dairy doesn't have to stop at the end of June; continue the fun year-round. You may be excited to hear that July is National Ice Cream month - a month dedicated to my very favorite dairy treat. For recipes and more information on all things dairy, visit DairyGood.com.
