RRC/WWG 000 01 = 1-6-0 MLAC 821 0x = 11-6-0 The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey fastpitch team rolled to a pair of victories Tuesday, sweeping a twin bill from Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Sanborn.
In the opener, Wolverine pitcher Molly Carnell tossed a five-hit shutout in a 9-0 MLAC win. Carnell did not issue a walk and struck out seven in the win.
The Wolverines got on the board in the top of the second on a two-run Margo Stoesz double.
The Falcons nearly tied the game in the bottom of the first. With a runner on first, Hannah Nelson smashed a drive that hit off the top of the fence and dropped down for a double, instead of dropping over for a home run. A strikeout stranded both Falcon runners on base.
In the third, Carnell added an RBI double for a 3-0 lead.
MLAC added four runs in the fourth. Jordan Boldt hit an RBI single, Destiny Sybounheuan had an RBI double and Taylor Naas ripped a two-run single.
Stoesz added an RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth and Boldt plated a run with a groundout in the seventh.
Sybounheuan led MLAC with four hits in the win. Stoesz added two hits and three RBI.
Kennedi Janssen took the pitching loss for RRC/WWG, allowing 10 hits and five walks while striking out one.
In the nightcap, MLAC batters drew 12 walks, helping lead to an 11-1 victory.
The Wolverines plated eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. Stoesz hit an RBI single, Brooke Naas drew a bases-loaded walk, Boldt hit a two-run single, Jaelin Renquist hit a two-run single and Carnell hit a two-run double.
The Wolverines added two-runs in the second on a two-run Lexi Toll single. MLAC scored its final run in the third on a wild pitch.
RRC/WWG scored its only run of the day in the top of the fifth on a Haley Simonson RBI single.
Carnell had two hits and two RBI for the Wolverines in the win. She was also the winning pitcher, working the first three innings. She allowed three hits and struck out two.
Simonson had two hits for the Falcons.
Nicole Schroepfer took the pitching loss for the Falcons, allowing six hits and 10 walks while striking out five.
