The Windom Eagle baseball team picked up a pair of critical late-season wins Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader from St. James on a soggy afternoon in St. James.

The games were moved from Windom to St. James due to wet field conditions and were played in a light rain for much of the afternoon.

In the opener, the Eagles scored nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to claim a 12-6 victory.

Down 1-0 in the fourth, the Eagles scored on a Noah Kloss RBI double.

Then, in the sixth, the Eagles sent 15 hitters to the plate, with 12 of the first 13 reaching without an out being recorded. Luke Gilbertson and Connor Redman each had two-run singles in the inning. Kobe Lovell and Andrew Quiring added RBI singles. Eric Pfeffer drew a bases-loaded walk and Kloss plated a run when he reached on an error.

The Eagles added two insurance runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Gilbertson and a squeeze-bunt single from Quiring.

Quiring finished with three hits in the win. Alex Borsgard, Redman and Lovell had two hits each.

Gilbertson worked the first 5-2/3 innings to earn the pitching win, striking out 12.

In the nightcap, the Eagles came from behind with three runs in the fifth inning to claim a 5-3 victory.

Windom took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI single from Gilbertson and an RBI double by Quiring.

St. James rallied to take a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles capitalized. Gilbertson scored when Borsgard reached on a three-base throwing error. Redman and Kloss followed with RBI singles.

Quiring led the Eagles with a pair of hits.

Lovell worked the first six innings to earn the pitching victory, striking out eight. Kloss pitched the seventh inning to earn a save.

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey baseball team had two stellar pitching outings Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader from Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda at Heron Lake.

The games were originally scheduled for Friday, but were moved up a day because of rain in the forecast.

In the opener, MLAC senior Dylan Hillesheim tossed a gem, scattering three hits in a 10-0 victory. Hillisheim walked one and struck out eight.

The Wolverine offense got going with four runs in the second. Fletcher Hanson and Brett Willaby hit RBI singles and Hillesheim and Drake Harder drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks.

The Wolverines took a 5-0 lead in the third when Jesse Jepsen walked and scored on an error.

Then, MLAC pulled away with a five-run fourth. Hanson and Regan Syverson drew bases-loaded walks, a run scored on a wild pitch and two runs scored on errors.

In the nightcap, Abraham Stoesz tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight in an 8-1 Wolverine win.

HLOF's only hit of the game was an RBI single in the top of the first inning.

The Wolverines tied the game on a Syverson double in the bottom of the second, then took the lead for good in the fourth. Two runs scored on errors and Hillesheim added a two-run single.

In the fifth, Eli Karschnik hit a bases-clearing double for MLAC's final runs.

Syverson had three hits in the win.
