Eagles turn back Huskies

JCC 10-25-12-20 = 1
Windom 25-23-25-25 = 3

The Windom Eagle volleyball team held a block party during homecoming week Tuesday night, turning aside Jackson County Central for a 3-1 victory at Windom.

Game scores were 25-10, 23-25, 25-12 and 25-20.

As a team, the Eagles recorded 20 solo blocks during the match, and the Eagles' strong service night kept the Huskies out of system for extended stretches of the match.

Windom raced to a quick lead in the first set and rolled to the win. In set two, the Eagles held a sizeable lead before JCC mounted a comeback, eventually scoring the final six points of the set for the win.

But the Eagles rebounded, controlling play in the third set, then hanging on late to win the fourth set.

Becca Hacker went 18-of-21 serving for the Eagles with an ace. She added 19 set assists, nine digs, five kills and three solo blocks.

Katelyn Nichols had seven solo blocks to go with six kills. Maurissa Isaacs had six blocks and five kills. Porsha Porath tallied a team-high 13 kills in the win.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove struggled to close out the first two sets Tuesday as Heron Lake-Okabena claimed a 3-0 sweep at Westbrook.

Game scores were 25-21, 25-19 and 25-12.

The Chargers were sharp at the service line, led by Emma Wahl going 9-of-9 with two aces. Halle Steen and Brittany Erickson were each 8-of-9 with an ace.

But WWG struggled slowing down the Wildcat hitters, finishing the night with no ace blocks.

Erickson led WWG with 10 kills. Camryn Bunting and Alli Vande Kieft each had four kills. Wahl had 13 digs. Steen finished with 22 set assists.
