The Windom Legion Post 206 baseball team advanced to the District 2 Tournament over the weekend by placing third in the Sub-District B Tournament, held in Springfield.
After Windom's first-round win over Lake Crystal Thursday, Post 206 fell 2-0 in the semifinals to Wabasso. Noah Kloss took the tough pitching loss, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three.
In an elimination game Saturday evening, Windom advanced with a 2-0 win over Welcome-Sherburn. Luke Gilbertson tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 13. Windom scored on an Eric Pfeffer RBI single in the fifth and a Kobe Lovell RBI double in the sixth.
That set up a rematch between Windom and Lake Crystal in Sunday's third-place game. Windom scored three runs in the second inning on its way to a 5-1 win. Kyle Espenson drew a bases-loaded walk and Gilbertson hit a two-run double in the second. Zach Wormstadt added an RBI single in the third and Lovell hit an RBI groundout in the fourth. Lovell earned the pitching win, scattering three hits and striking out eight.
Windom will face Sub-District A champion Jackson in the opening round of the district tournament, which begins Friday in Blue Earth.
