State's oldest resident passes away

Supercentenarian Lena Dick of Mt. Lake passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the age of 112 years, 206 days.

"The Lord's been very, very good to me," Dick said when she turned 104. "I just can't figure out why He lets me live so long."

According to the Gerontology Research Group, supercentenarians are people who reach at least 110 years.

Lena was born on Aug. 5, 1905 at home. She attended Mt. Lake Christian School - the Deutsche Schule (German School) as did her three children.

She cherished memories of box lunches and the simplicity of life in her youth.

Lena married Jacob L. on April 26, 1934. They were married for 53 years until he died in 1987.

They had three children: son, Alvin (Bernice) who died in 2015; daughter, Dorothy (Arlie) Beier; and son, Willard (Margaret) Dick.

For more on Lena, see the story in the March 7 issue of the Cottonwood County Citizen on newsstands and in mailboxes today.
