2/23/2018 12:00:00 PM Ice anglers should take note of deadlines
A year ago, many lakes in Southwest Minnesota had open water at the end of February. That isn't the case this year, as lakes have had a steady base of ice since late December.
DNR Fisheries Supervisor Ryan Doorenbos said there are some dates coming up that ice anglers should be aware of.
The deadline to remove ice houses from lakes bordering Iowa has already passed. It was Feb. 20. However, the deadline to remove ice houses from inland waters is not until midnight on March 5.
Anglers also need to be aware that the final day of the game fishing season for walleye and northern pike is Sunday. And anglers should note that their 2017 fishing licenses expire on Feb. 28. Starting March 1, anglers will need a 2018 license.
