(Today's news updates: 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m.)
Last week, Jackson County Attorney Sherry Haley charged Renee Lynn Harnack, formerly of the Cottonwood Soil and Water Conservation District in Windom, with three counts of theft and one count of embezzlement.
If convicted, Harnack could face a maximum of 20 years in jail and a $200,000 fine for two of the most serious charges.
Harnack, 59, was the bookkeeper for the SWCD's board of supervisors in the Windom Ninth Street office until Oct. 20. In November, attorneys for the SWCD filed a civil claim against Harnack seeking $150,000, plus "three times the amount of actual damages."
